There is hope

Creating Peace

I’ve been inspired by the post World Peace a Housewife’s Perspective by A Leaf in Springtime.   Her post has had me thinking on peace in general.  I feel strongly that we need to start with ourselves; we need to find peace within ourselves.  Peace cannot be imposed on someone, it has to come within.

I may have been influenced by the song Let Peace Begin with Me; when I was growing up Coca-Cola used this song for their ads. If you have been reading my posts, you already know that soft drinks had a strong influence on my early years.  Here are a few lines from the song:

Let there be peace on Earth,
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on Earth,
The peace that was meant to be.

Combining this thought with the fact that the only person we can change is ourselves makes sense to me.  Seeking inner peace is a simple solution, but I believe it to be the only true path to peace.  If we all seek the peace within ourselves and find it, then we will be at peace with not only ourselves, but with every one we meet.

We are influenced by those around us.  If we can find inner peace we can spread peace to our neighbors, co-workers, friends and family; they in turn can spread it.  So on and so on.

Life is good!  God is great! All is right in my world!

Daydreamers Award

I was recently nominated for the Daydreamer Award by Leigh, whose blog is Bluegrass Notes http://bluegrassnotes.wordpress.com/. I thank her for thinking of me and I am honored.

This award has very simple rules:

1) Upon receipt of this award, you are to take a mental vacation for five minutes. Gaze off into space, look out of the window, have yourself a wonderful day dream.

2) When you have returned from your day dream, you are required to take another one tomorrow.

3) Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

  1. Award this to three (3) people. You can only pass on this award to three (3) people only.

To accept this award I am required to have a daydream a day, I love these rules. I already had my daydream for the day and feel the better for it.  I hope my nominees have at least as much fun as I have had fulfilling the rules.

Changing Yourself Works When

I’ve been thinking about change lately.  Mainly why it works and why it doesn’t work sometimes.

How to be Happy – Genie’s Way

It’s been a rocky journey with a lot of wrong turns and dead ends, but I finally have found the path to happiness or least my path to happiness.  Here is a list of my happiness secrets  – the ones I can remember:

1. Do random acts of kindness.

2. Love yourself

3. Surround yourself with loved ones

4. Be grateful for what you had, what you have and what you will receive

5. Spend quality time with your family and friends

6. Spend quality time with yourself

7. Be of service aka volunteer to help someone or an organization

8. Do something you are passionate about i.e. hobby, travel, project, job etc.

9. Forgive everyone including your self

10. Value what you have

11. Compare yourself of today to past self, not to anyone else

12. Respect everyone even those folks you do not understand

13. Get plenty of sleep

14. Have an active spiritual life

15. Know that happiness comes from within – no one or no material good can make you happy

Life is good!  God is great!  All is right in my world!

Today, I’m sharing photos of birds I took at a local pond.  If you are interested in learning more about the pond, I blogged about it here.

Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast

I’m not one for joining clubs, but Sandy recently started a club that I can really enjoy being a member: Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast.  On her blog Another Lovely Day she posted: Would you like to join the “Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast” Club?

To be part of the Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast Club, here are the rules Sandy has established:

1) Make a list of six things you’ve basically given up on or that more often than not seem impossible/improbable.

2) Look at the list every morning before breakfast, “seeing” yourself being/doing/having each one.

It isn’t necessary to post your six impossible things, but I am.  I think it will reinforce the idea even more to share my list with you.  Perhaps the more people who know about my impossible list, the more likely my six things will become reality.  If nothing else, I know I will get positive encouragement.

My Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast:

1.  Create an online class.  I want to teach spiritual topics.  I’m spinning my wheels on this project, because I can’t figure out with topic to concentrate on first.  Anyone have any suggestions?

2.  Go on a road trip with my mother.

3.  Solve a genealogy mystery:  What happened to Jesse Cole?  Born on 12 Jun 1862 in Tennessee (probably Cocke or Sevier County) to John and Nancy Coleman Cole.  He married Elizabeth Smith on 14 August 1881 in Sevier County. He had a daughter named Matilda.  He moved to Greene County, Tennessee after he got out of prison then he disappeared (family story: he served 10 years for murder- then it was discovered he didn’t do it and he was released). Jesse was my great-grandmother’s brother.

4.  Work in my gardens most days for as long as I want to (I’m thinking hours).

5.  My house completely paid off.

6.  Able to walk/hike for miles to take fantastic photos.

Well, that’s my list.  If you are up for it, please join the club.

Life is good!  God is great!  All is right in my world!

Blessings,

Genie
